Survivors include her husband, George; three sons, Dennis of Mesa, Tim of Grand Junction, and Rudi of Loma; one daughter, Tori Kittel of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mary Jean Bevan

Mary Jean Bevan, a longtime resident of Mesa, Colorado passed away peacefully in her home on January 29, 2017. She was 84.
Mary Jean was born on September 15, 1931 in Mesa, Colorado at the family home of Alfred and Leola Rasmussen. She grew up in Mesa along with her two sisters and attended Mesa High School. She worked as a telephone operator for the local phone company. She married George Bevan of Mesa on September 10, 1950. They were happily married for 66 years.
Mary Jean was an active woman who enjoyed several activities. She had a love of the outdoors, traveling, growing flowers in her yard, and spending time with family. She was an early member of the Plateau Valley EMTs and was appointed to a state board which advised rural first response. She enjoyed riding horseback on the ranch and rode side-saddle in the local riding group for many years. Mary Jean spent many summer days digging worms to supply her side-of-the-road worm stand along Hwy 65 in Mesa. She operated that stand and sold worms to fisherman traveling to the Grand Mesa for nearly 50 years. She was approached many times and asked if she was the “worm lady” from Mesa.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her two sisters Cookie Wallace, and Margaret Ann Williams. She is survived by her husband George Bevan. Her four children; Dennis (Rita) Bevan of Mesa, Tim (Kym) Bevan of Grand Junction, Tori (Randy) Kittel of Grand Junction, and Rudy (Pam) Bevan of Loma. She is survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was deeply loved by all and will be truly missed.
A private graveside memorial will take place at a later date.
