He was a track inspector for the Union Pacific railroad, until he retired in 2009.
Mario was born on June 2, 1942, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Tomas S. and Maria Eugenia (Rubio) Chacon. He spent his childhood in Chihuahua, and attended school there. On April 23, 1966, Mario married the love of his life, Josefa C. Chacon in Satevó, Chihuahua. Throughout their marriage they lived in Chamizal, Satevó, Chihuahua, Morenci, AZ, and Thompson Springs, UT, before settling in Grand Junction where they have spent the last 35 years.
Mario was member of Junction Community Church, where he would often go above and beyond for his church family. He also enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and working on cars. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather; and will be deeply missed.
Mario is survived by his wife, Josefa C. Chacon of Grand Junction; sons, Tomas (Amy) Chacon, and Frank (Tobi) Chacon, both of Grand Junction; daughter, Mayra (Johnny) Aragon of Brighton; brothers, Jesus Natividad (Carmen) Chacon of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Joel Benjamin Chacon of Tyler, Texas; sisters, Amparo Prieto of Grand Junction, Lidia Anchondo of Dickenson, North Dakota, and Elva (Manuel) Martinez of Pampa, Texas; brother-in-law, Valentin Mendoza of Chihuahua, Mexico; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria Mendoza; and brothers-in-law, Ramiro Prieto and Jose Anchondo.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10 am at Junction Community Church. Mario’s celebration of life will begin at 11 am, with committal to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
