Louie was born on May 19, 1936 in Montrose, CO to Louis and Lena Wilmer. He spent his childhood there, but later moved to Paonia, CO where he graduated from high school.
Louie then lived in Uravan, CO for 29 years before getting transferred to Grand Junction, CO in 1981 where he would spend the remainder of his years.
Louie was a jack of all trades which included being a welder, truck driver, diesel mechanic, and a uranium miner. He worked for Union Carbide for 30 years before retiring and finished his career with Dible Oil Co.
One of Louie’s proudest moments was when he accomplished his goal of becoming a 32nd Degree Mason.
Louie loved the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially enjoyed riding his ATV and exploring the Uncompahgre with his special friends and family members.
He met the love of his live Evangelina (Vangie) Sandoval whom he was married to for 64 years. Louie got much joy from spending time with his family and his grandchildren Adam, Emily, and Ethan were the apple of his eye.
Louie is survived by his wife Vangie, his sons Eddy (Carol Jensen), Robert (Tracy Sutton), and his three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest son Ralph, his brothers Rudy and Joe Wilmer, and his sisters Dorothy Morton and Viola Vialpando.
A rosary will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 7:00pm. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, September 9, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Louie’s Passing will leave a deep void in the lives of all who loved him.
