Katherine C. Currier
July 1, 1926 – June 5, 2017
Katherine Christine Currier went home to be with her beloved Savior on June 5, 2017. She was the first of four children born to Ray Fredrick and Marian Clare (Speiser) Holland and spent her childhood in the Sargent Community of the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado.
After losing her mother at a young age, she learned the fine art of homemaking that would serve her well for the rest of her life. She graduated from Sargent High School in 1944 and went on to earn her degree in Christian Education from Southwest Baptist Junior College in Bolivar, Missouri in 1946. Subsequently, she studied nursing at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs with the intent of becoming a missionary. She gave up her nursing training to marry Charles “Chuck” Currier on December 29, 1949. Together they farmed, ranched, and raised four children. They lived on the original Currier homestead in Grand Junction until 1969 when they moved with their children to the farming community of New Liberty northwest of Mack. In 1995, they retired from farming and returned to Grand Junction.
Katherine was an active member of First Baptist Church for 67 years, teaching Sunday school, chairing the mission board, and serving in various roles. She had a passion for missions and a hospitable heart. She reached out to others, writing many cards and letters, and was always eager to set another place at the table. She hosted many missionaries over the years.
Katherine was so much more than a homemaker. The nurture she gave her family left a rich legacy. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was wonderful at baking pies, sewing, throwing tea parties for her grandchildren, and growing flowers in her garden. She enjoyed viewing the wildflowers in the desert in the spring, going four-wheeling, and attending the Meeker Classic sheepdog trials.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Marian Holland; father, Ray F. Holland; step-mother, Juanita Holland; and brothers, Zane Holland and Glen Holland.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Chuck; two daughters, Connie Martin (Dave) of Lakewood and Christine Aduddell (Michael) of Grand Junction; two sons, John (Teddy Ann White) of Glenwood Springs and Paul (Cheryl Flynn) of Rifle; one brother, David Holland of Hooper; two sisters, Estalita Versaw of Center and Lois Grooms of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Aduddell (Rasikarn “Aliz”), Ben Martin (Jenn), Bethany Swope (Mike), Melody Jones (Trevor), Josh Currier, Jared Martin, Mary Wade (Lyndon), Iain Martin (Samantha), Amy Currier, Christa Currier; and 11 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 9 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10 at First Baptist Church of Grand Junction. Memorial gifts can be made to First Baptist Church or to HopeWest.
