John was born on December 22, 1954, in Topeka, Kansas, to John W. and Norma Lee (Hershey) Sorrick. He spent his childhood in Eskridge, Kansas and graduated from high school there. He attended the University of Dubuque and earned his PhD in psychology from the Union Institute. John married Marcia Kunau in Dubuque, Iowa in 1976. In addition to Topeka and Eskridge, John also resided in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Rochester, Minnesota, and Kansas City, before coming to Grand Junction. John worked with troubled youth. He was also in advertising, sales, and was a psychologist. In his free time, he enjoyed water sports and movies.
John is survived by his wife, Marcia Sorrick of Grand Junction; sons, John E. (Melissa) Sorrick of Olathe, Kansas, and Luke B. (Edith) Sorrick of Grand Junction; brother, Bill (Karen) Sorrick of Joplin, Missouri; sister, Rebecca (Scott) Schooler of Ozawkie, Kansas; and four grandchildren. His parents, John W. and Norma Lee Sorrick; brother, George Sorrick; and his sister, Luwilda Sorrick, preceded him in death.
Services will take place on November 4, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Japanese Garden Room, at Gage Park in Topeka, Kansas.
John was sustained and strengthened by his Christian faith. He met his end with peace, secure in his salvation.
