Jack was born on August 1, 1936, in Clifton, Colorado, to Glenn and Dorothy (Sperber) Michels. He spent his childhood in Grand Junction and graduated from Grand Junction High School. He married Kathleen Carpendale on September 16, 1956, and was her loving, supportive, best friend and husband for 68 years. They were lifelong members of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Junction. Jack was a Union Master Electrician, and a member of IBEW for 60 years, along with his father, brother, and son, Greg. He enjoyed spending his free time outdoors, camping, hunting and venturing down any back road on motorcycles, ATV’s, snowmobiles, and Jeeps. But most of all he enjoyed doing the things he loved with friends and family. He was a father, grandfather, and mentor to many people through the years.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Michels of Grand Junction; sons, Randy Michels and Greg (Nicoletta Moschetti) Michels, both of Grand Junction; daughter, Gayle Michels of Grand Junction; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” (Linda) Carpendale; sister-in-law, Ruth Michels; three grandchildren, Andrew Hunger, Ashly Baker, and Jake Hunger; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Baker and Parker Hunger; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Dorothy Michels; brother, Robert “Bob” Michels; and sister, Elizabeth Hayes.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Martin Mortuary. Committal will follow at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens.
