He was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on April 10, 1991 to Susan Martinez Powers and Don Carey.
His brother Matthew "Goobs" gave him the nickname "Bert" because he couldn't say Jeremiah and it stuck with him through life.
He attended Chipeta Elementary and East and West Middle School, where excelled and made many lifetime friends. He loved school and many of his teachers. He was a very kind and witty person with a good sense of humor. He attended Grand Junction High School and attained his G.E.D. He was also very athletic, playing football and wrestling.
Jeremiah quickly found interest in "art tattooing" and was very good at what he did. He had a dream to open up his own tattoo shop and let troubled kids come in and shadow him. He said if they found something that inspired them, maybe it would keep them out of trouble.
His joy in life came with the birth of his son, Josiah Jedi Ray Carey, on August 11, 2012 with his wife Cherilyn Castillo.
Bert was very much loved by his large family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Josiah Jedi Ray Carey, his mom Susan Powers, his dad Don (Meme) Carey, his siblings Cindy (Rick) Voyles, Robin Martinez, Roy Carey, Max Martinez, Casey Martinez, Jessica (Eric) Carey-Rodas, Nicholas Martinez, Patrick Martinez, Andrew Martinez, Matthew Carey, and Victoria Powers. He is also survived by nine nephews, seven nieces, five great nephews and five great nieces.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Martin Mortuary, 550 North Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501.
