Helen M. Steele
June 10, 1926 - January 25, 2015
Helen was born in St. Joseph, Missouri. At a young age, she found herself in Colorado as a companion to a local fruit-grower’s only daughter. She married her husband, George, in 1943 before he enlisted in the Army during WWII and stayed with his family on their ranch in Nucla, waiting anxiously for his letters home.
After the war, Helen, George, and their two young children moved to their ranch near Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery in the early 1950s. Helen was very active with her church and prayer groups. She was an artist and painted in oils and water color. She liked music and loved to read, especially anything with the Peanuts. She was an excellent cook and was always, always dressed to the nines! Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed. She passed peacefully, her family close.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzette and Bill Louden of Grand Junction; granddaughter, Teresa Vessels of Fruita; and her sister, Ada Pomering of Missouri. She is predeceased by her husband, George, and her son, Rudy.
Arrangements by Callahan-Edfast with private services for family at Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
