Harold was born in his grandparent’s home on December 29, 1937, in Blum, Texas, to Dudley and Georgia Lee (Young) O’Neal. His family worked in the cotton fields, and Harold and his brother were paid as one worker. He graduated high school in Frost, Texas, and throughout his life he also lived in Cleburne, Texas; San Fernando, California; Simi Valley, California; and Sylmar, California; before settling in Grand Junction where he spent the last 52 years. While he was in San Fernando, he married Margie Elaine Wilkinson on January 24, 1959. They were married 64 years and 10 months.
Harold worked as a farmer and ran a small dairy. He was also a metalworker at General Motors for 16 years, a building contractor, and a Mesa County building inspector. He was a member of the Baptist church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with family. When he had an older friend pass away, he took care of his friend’s widow as he would have cared for his own mother. He could not go anywhere without running into a friend. He will be truly missed.
Harold is survived by his wife, Elaine O’Neal; sons, David (Dixie) Wilkinson, Patrick (Robin) O’Neal, and Mark (Kelli) O’Neal; grandsons, Joshua O’Neal and Blake Gobbo; granddaughters, Jennifer McMullen and Kortni Stewart; sister, Vera Walker; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Glenn Edward O’Neal, grandson, Cole Wilkinson; brothers, Herschell and Grady O’Neal; and sisters, June Walter and Gwendolyn Stangland.
