Gerry, a loving husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife of 56 years, Muriel; sons Timothy (Michelle), David (Julie) and Christopher; daughters Jill (Joshua) Nadel and Nina (Nathan) Reeder, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. His brother Rich (Bonnie) of Frankfort, IL, also survives.
After graduating from Chicago Christian High School in June 1960, he worked until he was drafted into the Army in 1964. He served in Vietnam for one year. After he returned home, he proposed to Muriel Stoub and they married on August 6, 1966.
He worked at Landis Tile and Manufacturing Company after the army. He bought his first garbage business in 1970. In 1974, his brother, Clar joined Gerry in business. In 1985, he sold G.M. Disposal. He and his family moved to Durango, Colorado, and built and ran the Durango Quick Lube. He sold the Quick Lube in December, 2000. He drove for Durango Transit from 2004-2008, when he retired. After 27 years in Durango, Gerry and Muriel moved to Grand Junction, CO in 2012.
Gerry loved God as a lifelong Christian. They were involved in several different churches during his life, and Gerry was an elder, deacon and chaplain. He was encouraging and supportive of many people in his life. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed games, classic cars, and 60’s music. He also enjoyed birdwatching, coin collecting, and collecting old beer cans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Bill and Clar. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Church, 1350 N. 7th Street in Grand Junction, on May 7, 2023 at 2:00. There will be luncheon afterward. Please make memorial contributions to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
