Darrell "Skeeter" Dwayne Baker

Skeeter was born to Goldie Lucille Bowling and Carl D Baker in Ukiah, California as the youngest of 4 boys.

He spent his childhood in Grand Junction, Colorado and graduated from Central High School in 1975. Skeeter raised two incredible sons, Luke and Cole as a single dad until he met and married the love of his life, Shelley on Dec. 3rd, 1999. In 2001 they adopted their daughter Zhanna from Kazakhstan and raised her along with Luke and Cole. Sadly, all three preceded him in death and he missed them terribly.

Skeeter loved snow skiing, boating on Lake Powell, scuba diving, rock collecting, flint knapping and travel of any kind. He even traveled to Egypt and was able to scuba dive in the Red Sea! He was the proud owner of Baker Services, LLC., for 30+ years along with his wife Shelley. They worked together serving many local residents and businesses with construction services in the Grand Valley. He also worked 7 years for Pepsi and drove over the Rocky Mountains every day delivering products.

In the early 1980’s he moved to Alaska for several years and worked with the 21st division of Civil Engineers Squadron of the Air Force where he kept the active flight lines open. In his late teens/early 20’s he worked in underground uranium mining. Skeeter worked very hard his whole life and loved providing for his family and helping his friends when they were in need.

He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all his heart and was eager to share his faith to those he came across. Skeeter will always be remembered for his funny, quirky personality and his generous nature. Together Skeeter and Shelley built a beautiful life in Grand Junction. He was blessed to have many friends who loved and cared about him throughout his life. (You know who you are) He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Skeeter is survived by his wife Shelley Baker, brother George Edmond Baker (Samantha) George’s children Audrey Baker, Eddie Baker (Kathy) and Sherri Martin (Alan), Steve’s children Stevie Baker, Janet Baker, Gary Baker, Brenda Proctor(Chase) and Brent Baker (Tyler), his beautiful granddaughter Lily, as well as many great nieces and nephews. His parents, brothers Dave and Steve and his 3 children Luke, Cole and Zhanna preceded him in death.

Services will be on Tuesday July 9th, 2024, 1pm at Faith Heights Church, 600 28 ¼ Rd Grand Junction, Co 81506
