Darnell was raised in Colorado and then moved to Hawthorne, California where she attended school until she found the love of her life Ed and married him in June 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple in December 1966.
The young couple moved to Hawaii in 1958 after Ed enlisted in the United States Navy. After 4 years of military service, they moved back to Southern California for 10 years before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado. After several job transfers, they ended up back in Grand Junction in 1989 where they resided, until moving to Saint George, Utah in 2013. Since 2019, Darnell resided at her home in Grand Junction until 2023, when she moved to The Lodge at Grand Junction, assisted living center.
Darnell was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many church callings throughout her life including Primary President and a variety of opportunities to serve. She had a strong belief in her Savior Jesus Christ and shared her faith with family and friends.
Darnell completed beauty school at the age of 18 in California and years later was employed as an orthodontic technician for 25 years in Grand Junction.
