Bobbie was born in Lubbock, Texas to Oran Neaves and Cynthia Price Neaves. Although he lived most of his adult life in Colorado, he kept his distinctive Texas twang. Back in the days of 35mm cameras, Bobbie worked in the photo finishing industry. His extensive collection of classic old cameras is testament of his love of picture taking and developing. Bobbie was a clown, always joking with a great wit. Bobbie was also interested in the welfare of others. He graduated, Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Psychology from Texas Christian University in 1958. In 1985, he graduated from Metro State University, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services. In 1987, he got his Masters from the University of Colorado, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Social Science. Bobbie was a case worker for the Northeast Denver Housing Center, a nonprofit organization that worked to take the homeless to home ownership. He was a counselor with alcohol and drug abuse. Bobbie retired and moved to Grand Junction in the early 2000’s. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August of 2016. Bobbie’s wish was to live long enough to vote in this year’s election. Thanks to the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Bobbie received an early ballot and got his vote in, in time. He passed away peacefully at HopeWest, keeping one eye on his beloved Dallas Cowboys on ESPN. If you would like to donate to Alcoholics Anonymous or the Grand Junction Community Homeless Shelter, it would put a smile on Bobbie’s face.
