Betty was born in Springfield, Colo. on Oct. 6, 1932. She spent her childhood on her family’s small farm near Paonia with her mother, stepfather, and siblings. Betty met Warren Goff in Gunnison, CO, and married on November 8, 1948, in Taos, NM. They welcomed their first two children, Mike and Janet, into their home in White Pine, CO. The family lived in California briefly and Betty met her father, Stacy, who lived nearby. After moving back to Colorado and eventually settling in Cañon City, Tom and Christie were born and the family was complete. Betty resided in Cañon City for over 50 years before moving to Grand Junction, CO.
Betty often hosted bridge club and was one of the luckiest card players you’d ever meet. She also enjoyed road trips and camping with her family. As the kids grew up and moved out, she kept herself busy by working at JC Penney and Olsen’s Jewelers, and by babysitting John and Megan Usury. Betty earned her GED in her 40s. She loved her 10 grandkids and later her 12 great-grandchildren, rarely missing a sporting event or birthday. In her retirement, Betty enjoyed traveling, especially with her cousins. She won awards at the Colorado State Fair for her crafts, including painted ceramics and a latch-hook rug.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Goff, parents Stacy Hackney and Marcelle Hostetler, sister Sharlene Liniger, daughter Janet Gunkel, daughter-in-law Becky Goff, granddaughter Afton Shumway, and great-grandson Adam Goff.
She is survived by her children Mike (Linda) Goff of Cañon City, CO; Tom (Ronda) Goff of Grand Junction, CO; Christie (Mel) Shumway of Afton, WY; son-in-law Mike (Tami) Gunkel of Cañon City, CO; and siblings Clyde (Cassie) Hackney of Grand Junction, CO; Donna (Dale) Garrett of Gunnison CO; and Cheri Cree of Bellevue, WA.
Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at Lakeside Cemetery in Cañon City.
