Arlene Marie (Johnson) Schweitzer passed away in Grand Junction, Colorado on the 10th of August 2017 after a brief yet valiant fight against cancer. Arlene was born on the 21st of December 1945 in Ovid, Colorado to Leslie Johnson and Wilma (Grabowski). She was raised on a farm near Sedgwick, Colorado where she went to school. She married Darrel Schweitzer from nearby Julesburg, Colorado at the Sedgwick Presbyterian Church on September 27th, 1964.
Arlene worked to help her husband through Veterinary School in Manhattan, Kansas. After Darrel graduated, they moved to Alberta where Arlene helped her husband begin his veterinary career. After two years her family and their devoted dog Peppy moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Arlene began a long career as an independent Avon consultant. The family moved once again and settled in Grand Junction in 1978. Arlene had a variety of jobs; she managed a donut shop, read electric meters for REA and made custom luggage, draperies, and square dance attire, in which she found a love of sewing. She began making quilts and belonged to numerous local quilting guilds, and had several award winning quilts. She was very dedicated to her family, and kept busy making dress up clothes and quilts for her grandkids.
She left to be with her Saviour, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by, and will be sorely missed by her husband, Darrel Schweitzer of Grand Junction, two children, Roger Schweitzer of Colorado Springs and daughter Cynthia Louthan of Austin, TX, and four grandchildren, Shayna Louthan, Cassie Louthan, Caden Louthan and Alexander Schweitzer.
