HARDY, Robert J. – of Grand Blanc, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at McLaren Hospice – Flint. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Rev. Dr. Joseph Novak will be officiating. Private burial follows at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will take place 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Hardy was born June 6, 1930 in Flint, Michigan the son of the late Cecil and Margaret Hardy. Robert graduated from Flint Central High School and from Michigan State University with a degree in economics. He met Martha Langs at Michigan State University and they were married in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service Martha and Robert settled in Flint. Mr. Hardy was the third generation to work for the family owned Hardy Baking Company. In his second career he was a Financial Planner with Merrill Lynch. He retired from Merrill Lynch after more than 30 years. Robert was active in the Flint Kiwanis many years. Robert loved spending his time in his flower gardens of dahlias and zinnias. Robert loved to travel near and far. If there was a drive involved then a picnic was certainly packed. Surviving are: wife of almost 30 years, Frankie Hardy; daughters, Linda CasaSanta (Dan) and Susan Hastings (Russell); grandchildren, Margaret CasaSanta, Abigail Egan (Brendan), Matthew CasaSanta, Russell Hastings (Lauren), Sean Hastings and Clare Hastings; great-grandchildren, Daniel Robert Egan and Lily Hastings. Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Hardy, mother of Linda and Susan, and by his sister and brother in law, Nancy and Eino Rajala. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Flint ( P.O. Box 3555 Flint, MI 48502), Flint Institute of Music, Flint Institute of Art or to the charity of your choice.
