Bowles, Michael Thomas Sr., “Mike” age 84 of Higgins Lake, Largo, Florida, and formerly of Flint, died peacefully at Victoria’s House in Flint after a long and courageous health battle. Mike was born on December 11, 1937, in Flint, the son of Richard and Dorothy (Burneo) Bowles. Raised in Flint, he was educated locally, graduating from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1956. While in the Flint Central Marching Band, Mike would meet the love of his life, Evelyn Dennis. The two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on April 12, 1958, in Flint. Mike went to work for Capital Airlines, which later became United Airlines. He worked in Flint for many years, before being transferred to Cincinnati, Chicago, and Indianapolis, and was later able to settle Grand Rapids. Mike retired from United Airlines in 1994, with 37 years of service.
In his free time, Mike enjoyed golfing, music, and spending time with family and friends. Mike loved spending time at his Cottage at Higgins Lake, especially when he was out on his boat. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, volunteering in many capacities. He also volunteered as a Stephen Minister for many years. During his retirement Mike worked for Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Largo, Florida, helping families in their time of need. He will be remembered for his calm and gentle demeanor, his kindness, and his strong faith.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; two sons, Michael and wife, Grace Bowles, and Dennis and wife, Christina Bowles; three grandchildren, Joshua and wife, Lacey Bowles, Cathrina and husband, Logan Beam, and Victoria Bowles; four great-grandchildren, Kody and Chloe Bowles and Elan and Remy Beam; sisters, Diane and husband, Bill Wall, Sheila Sakuta and Sandra Fick; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Mike, and Erma Dennis; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Fick and Wayne Sakuta. In accordance with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service and Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 1:00PM at Oakwood Cemetery, at 7851 W. Higgins Lake Drive, Roscommon, MI.
