Linda was born in February of 1932, to John Wesley Staten, Jr., and Leonard Thelma “Lennie” Phillips, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and was the last of 9 children. Linda was raised by her paternal aunt, Molly (Staten) Ford, after her mother passed when Linda was just an infant. Linda married Lehmon O. Crawford in Arkansas and the couple moved to Flint, Michigan in December of 1958. They settled in Burton, Michigan where they raised their two daughters, Maurena and Rebecca “Leah”.
Linda led a life of service both personally and professionally. She was an advocate for people in need and it was no surprise to those who knew her best when she went to work for Genesee County Department of Social Services. Even after retiring, after 26 years as a caseworker for the State of Michigan, she continued to help anyone who needed a helping hand. She enjoyed her garden along with canning its harvest every year. She was a faithful reader of her bible and participated in church from home. If Church wasn’t on TV; you’d hear a soap opera, or a good mystery show instead. One of Linda’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But even they knew not to bother Grandma when the Kentucky Derby was on.
Linda will be lovingly remembered by her family who survive her. Daughters: Maurena Crawford, Dr. Kenneth Williams and Rebecca “Leah” (Jessie) Simpson. Grandchildren: Brett (Jamie Wand) Williams, Heather (Isaac London) Williams, Heidi (Dave) Weinberg, Marcus “Ryan” (Elise) Sweeney, and Kaylea Sweeney. Great-grandchildren: Dylan (Sweeney), Rachel, Molly and Megan Weinberg, and Marlena London. Sisters: Mary Kosial and Melba Damoth. Along with many friends who already miss her.
Linda was proceeded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years: Lehmon O Crawford; her parents John and Lennie Staten; dear Aunt Molly Ford (who raised Linda as her own); her brothers Robert, Lenard, Carrol, and Maurice Staten; and sisters Elizabeth "Nan" Rice, Christine "Chris" Bowden.
