PALMER, Leona Mae (Myers) – age 88 of Grand Blanc, MI passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Per her wishes cremation has taken place. Final place of rest will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Leona was born on September 20, 1928 in Howell, MI to the late James A. and Frances M. (Semroe) Myers. She married Herbert Palmer on September 4, 1948 at Howell United Methodist Church and had been a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Burton, MI since 1955. Leona received her Bachelor’s Degree from University of Michigan –Flint and later went on to obtain her Master’s Degree from Oakland University. Leona worked as a Special Education teacher at Flint Northwestern School. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, MEA, NEA, and American Legion Auxiliary. Leona loved to golf and played on several weekly bridge clubs. She was also an excellent cookie baker. Leona was a kind, warm, generous, and gentle angel. She was always very active and busy doing things to help others. Leona is survived by her husband, Herbert Palmer; daughters, Nancy (Gordon) Short, Jill (Neville) Elphinston, LeeAnn (Bill) Parish, and Sandy (Jim) Bergeron, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, James E. (Mary) Myers, an aunt, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Myers; and sister, Louise Silvers.
