CATANESE, Joseph A. – of Grand Blanc, age 89, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Genesys Health Park. Visitation Wednesday 2-8 PM at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw in Grand Blanc. Scripture Service Wednesday 7 PM. In State Thursday at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Blanc, until Funeral Mass at 11 AM. Burial will take place at Ottawa River Cemetery, Ohio.
Mr. Catanese was born in Rochester, PA on November 29, 1920, the son of the late Antonio and Assunta (Cucinelli) Catanese. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Bowling Green State University, and later received a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University. He was a teacher for 34 years; last 17 were at Lowell Jr. High in Flint, Michigan and had coached high school football and basketball. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the Sons of Italy.
Surviving are: Children, Claire Anne (Raymond) Moore, Toni (Michael) Dusenbery, Samuel (Sally), Leota (Gerald) Black, Carol (Ray) Yaklin, William (Joni), Jodie (Tim) Hollen, and Charles (Tammy); 21 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Charles (Nancy) and Carmel (Mike) Baycura; many nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by: wife, Leota; son, Joseph and four siblings. Many thanks to Dr. Swamy for the care of our father over the years.
