METZGER, Joan Carol, age 80, of Goodrich, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12:00PM Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison, Rev. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. The family will receive friends 10AM Thursday until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Daniel L. Metzger Memorial Fund managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.
Joan was born November 22, 1934 in Flint, the daughter of the late Joseph Paul and Rose Catherine (Wolbert) Richvalsky. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University, achieving her Bachelor’s Degree and later her Master’s Degree in Education. Joan began her teaching profession in 1957 at the local parochial schools and finished her teaching career in the Goodrich Community Schools, teaching English to eighth grade students until retirement in 2005. Joan also taught at Baker College in the evenings. She viewed her work as fun and never considered it a job. She had a great love for her students and their education.
Joan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison and a Union Representative for the Michigan Education Association. In her free time she was a prolific reader and a movie buff. She loved her family and was a loving sister and aunt to each of them. She will be remembered and loved forever.
Surviving are her sisters, Lorraine Seman of Boulder City, NV, Veronica Thorne (James) of Davison, Rose Marie Wurtz (Richard) of Goodrich; brothers,
Joseph S. Richvalsky (Alison) of Goodrich, David J. Richvalsky (Twila) of Waialua, HI; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel L. Metzger in 1993.
