GROVER, Dr. HUGH L. born October 24, 1928 in Flint, MI, passed away at home, on June 18, 2015 at 4:00 A.M. in Bay City, MI. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439 with Rev. Chris Austin officiating. Burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 22, 2015 from 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Rivertown Funeral Chapel, 209 S. Huron, Kawkawlin, MI 48631, with a dinner following at the Double Tree Hotel and from 12:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. 48439 with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:00 P.M . Hugh graduated from Flint Central High School, Flint, Michigan in 1946 and went to Valley Forge Military Junior College, Wayne, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1948. He completed his Bachelors of Science at Eastern Michigan University in 1952, and attended medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa in 1962, achieving his D.O. degree. He also obtained his M.D. degree from the University of California, Irvine, CA in 1962. He started his family practice 3433 Fenton Rd., Flint in 1961, and retired after 49 years of service. During that time he was in the Army Reserves, going on several missions, one of them the USNS Mercy ship on a humanitarian mission to the Philippines in 1987. He was never discharged, and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was on several professional organizations including the American Osteopathic Board of General Practice-Certified, the Genesee County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, and the Society of Medical Consultants to the Armed Forces. Hugh was a life member of Flint Masonic Lodge #23 F&AM, the Bay City Consistory and Elf Khurafeh Shrine. He is preceded in death by his father Dr. Harold F. Grover, wife, Bette A. Grover, son, Theron H. Grover, brother, Merle Grover, and brother-in-law Jack Cook. He is survived by his sister-in-law and several nieces, nephews, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
