Mr. Harold C. Scott, age 85, passed on March 8, 2022, at his home in Grand Blanc, MI.
Cremation will take place and there will be no immediate service. A Military Funeral Honors Ceremony is in order Friday, March 18, 2022, at 1:00PM at the Great Lakes National Cemetery located at 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442.
Harold C. Scott was born on July 8, 1936, in Union County, Arkansas, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Gallie and Evelyn Scott.
Harold grew up in Union County, Eldorado, Arkansas, working on his grandfather’s farm alongside his 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Harold graduated from Smith High School, in Union County, AK, in 1953. Harold relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1953. Harold’s ability to discipline himself was recognized immediately upon his arrival to Flint, MI. An 18-year-old Harold Scott was dubbed a “Talent from Afar” in a 1950s Flint Journal article.
In 1954, Harold C. Scott, sincerely shifted his focus, and began working at Chevrolet V8 Engine Plant as a janitor. Harold served in the United States Army 1959-1962. Harold earned his associates degree from Flint Junior college.
Harold was also active in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s. Harold earned his bachelor’s degree from Detroit College of Business - Summa Cum Laude, and a Master of Business Management from Central Michigan University - Summa Cum Laude, all while continuing to work his way up at General Motors. Harold held many positions at GM over the decades including - Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent.
Harold met Ranee Paula Crichton Scott on New Year’s Eve 1979, not long after her arrival to America from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. They married on May 7, 1981.
Harold was a Professor at the Detroit College of Business in the 1980s.
In 1980, on behalf of General Motors, Harold worked for the National Alliance of Business for one year, “conducting seminars for ex-offenders and disadvantaged youth, and assisted Genesee County public school districts with career guidance institutes for teachers”, as quoted in the Flint Journal in the late 1980s.
In 1987, Harold received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Detroit College of Business.
Harold continued as superintendent of Production at Chevrolet V8 Engine Plant, through the late 1980s and 1990s, until his retirement from General Motors, near the 21st century.
After retirement from General Motors, Harold C. Scott made another sincere shift to focus on the bigger picture, with tunnel vision. Harold continued as an avid walker and lifted hundreds of pounds each day.
Harold’s inspirational nature continued through his deep discussions about politics, learning, sports, music, technology and business.
Harold is survived by, his wife, Ranee Paula Teresa Crichton Scott. Their two kids - son, Paul Harold Crichton Scott, daughter, Paula Harsenia Crichton Scott, and grandson Carter Preston Grove-Scott. Also, by his children – son, Larry (Carleen) Holley, grandkids Treasure Holley, Angel Holley, Destiny (CJ) Hooker and great-granddaughter Milani Hooker; daughter, Aubrey (Wallace) Dawson, grandkids Alexandria Dawson, Olivia Dawson and great-grandson Noah; son, Harold Cedric (Vanessa) Scott, Sr., grandkids Cevannah Scott, Harold Cedric Scott Jr., and Crystal Scott. Special nieces - Cydney Evelyn Scott - Taylor and Kathlyn R. Scott, and two great - nephews Justin M. Gueye and Alassane Clifford Gueye. Also, host nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The last breath of a generation, and a job well done. Harold is preceded in death by those who, throughout Harold’s life, he has credited - parents – Mr. and Mrs. Gallie and Evelyn K. Scott and siblings, Rhondie Stephens, Kathalyn Scott, Joe Henry Scott, Clifford Scott, Melbatine Hunter, and Carl Jimmie Scott.
