Gladys Mildred Baker age 99, of Flint, MI went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 12th while surrounded by family in McLaren Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Gladys was born March 24, 1915 in Lodi, Ohio to parents Thomas and Leota (Berley) Phillips. She was the youngest of 9 children born to a modest, hard working family. Gladys was loved by all and helped everyone. She was the hardest working Lady anyone knew. She was the most loving, self sacrificing, kind and wisest person and always there to lend a hand. She started sewing at age 12 and became very skilled & unmatched in the upholstery business in her craft. She worked until age 97. She also baked the best pies and fried chicken better than anyone. Gladys had a servant’s heart and will always be remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, 1st husband and father of both her sons Ray Chapman and 2nd husband, John Baker and both sons, Lloyd Allen Chapman 1st and then Kenneth Ray Chapman most recently. Also, a grandson William (Bill) Chapman. Surviving are grandchildren David (Janet) Chapman, Laura (Charles) Ikerd, Julie (Ferris) Hallmark and Kenneth Chapman, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
