Frances (Lacey) Ackley passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 as a result of cancer. Born October 27, 1932 in Flint to Laurence and Margaret (Abbott) Lacey, Fran led a devoted life to her Catholic faith, family and friends, and also her career. She was a secretary at Catholic schools for many years, including St. John Vianney and Luke M. Powers high schools in Flint, as well as area doctors and real estate offices. She concluded her career as the bookkeeper at Holy Family Catholic Parish in Grand Blanc. Fran’s Irish charm and dedication was celebrated in 2005 when she was named Flint’s Irish Mother of the Year.
She was married to Edward M. Ackley, who preceded her in death in 1958. She bade farewell to their four children: Edward; Suzanne (Christopher) Bachman; Martin; and Joan (Robert) Bahra; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, Edward (Pauline) Lacey, sisters Margaret (John) Mahoney and Marie Knight; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. The family would like to extend their warm thanks to Avalon Hospice in Flint and its caring staff.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, August 13 at Hill Funeral Home in Grand Blanc, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 14 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Blanc with Fr. Doug Osborn officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Powers Catholic High School at www.powerscatholic.org.
