It was a privilege and an honor to know and work with Don in the SUVCW. He will be missed. 

A good man and a brother in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. It was a privilege to know and work with him. Now he has gone to heaven which is his gain and our loss. We look forward to seeing him again someday.

Words cannot express my sadness upon hearing of Don's passing. Don and I were part of the fraternal organization the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. What a truly kind and caring individual. He will be greatly missed by all  who had the privilege of calling him there friend and colleague.
He served as a local Camp Commander, State Commander and National Commander of the organization and did an outstanding job at each level. He had a special talent for making everything he was involved in successful and those around him feel at ease & appreciated. Although soft spoken he was a true leader. As those that knew him can attest. May God grant him peace and wrap his arms around his family and friends during this difficult time. I will miss him.

I will remember Don as a friend, neighbor, and a joy to be with. We spent many hours on my porch just shooting the breeze. Rest in heaven Don and you and Adam take care of each other.

The Department of Nebraska and the Dakotas was saddened at Don's sudden passing, but we have fond memories of his visit to our Encampment in 2020 - photo above.  Likewise he shared many words of wisdom on SUVCW constitutional questions we posed to him.  He will be deeply missed by all.  Rest in Peace, Don.

It was a pleasure to know Brother Don Shaw and to share our common interests in trial practice and history! He was Past Commander- In -Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and a dual member of U.S. Grant Camp #67 in Bay City. He was always first to pay his dues and to send a Christmas card! We will miss his sense of humor too!

The 8th Michigan Infantry was at a drill Bay City when this leprechaun of a man carrying a rifle walked up and wanted to join the drill.  Over the next 30 years we came to know Don’s dry humor and his willingness to help his brothers in arms.

Mr. Shaw was loved here at Probate Court and his absence will be felt by all of us.  The first Christmas card we received each year was always from him, he was kind and thoughtful.  Rest in Peace.

News of Don's passing has greatly saddened me.  We had known each other for many years.  We were SUV Brothers, fellow reenactors,  had a professional relationship, and were just plain friends.   

Rest in peace, Brother.



I had the pleasure of sitting with Don Shaw & Lloyd Lamphere at the Gov. Crapo Camp Christmas Dinner this last Saturday evening Dec. 10th.   I really enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship. 
 Brother Shaw was a good man.  I personally will miss him very much.

We tried to visit Jeff when ever he was signing books in Gettysburg, PA - this after a Remembrance Day Parade

Don, Ron, Ed and myself (Dean) were at Springfield representing many a years and in this one we had two reenacting brothers Rich M. and Richard L.

Don kept a close eye on the cannon on the Court House lawn.   This was taken after a painting update for the cannon, cannon balls and base.   

A huge fan of history we visited many sites and things of historical importance.   This trip to Trenton, New Jersey has Don posing by the USS New Jersey Battleship BB62.     In Philadelphia we found an historical tour called the "Tipplers Tour" and it was great.    Fond memories of that tour, some toasts and turtle soup at Book Binders Restaurant.
