David was born on October 31, 1948, to the late Oscar and Iva (Wilbur) Lawrence in Flint, Michigan. In his younger years, he was an avid pool player. David was a big fan of wrestling, dominoes and cribbage. He also loved watching the Game Show Network, especially Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. David always supported his local sports teams of both the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He was quite the traveler and went all over the country, visiting places such as the Grand Canyon and Hawaii, with Gale (his ex-wife). David was a kind man who believed in spending money on his community. From 1965 through 1968, he proudly served in the United States Army in the Airborne 152nd Division, was both a Vietnam Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. David was a loving uncle and friend and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
David leaves behind to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews Scott (Brenda), Stacey, Jack, Joe (Sally), Mike (Shelley) and Ashley; "adopted daughter" caregiver Joy (Clif) Sharp; best friend Bryan Whalen; dear friend Nelson Pearson; and several great nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Iva Lawrence, grandparents Henry and Elizabeth (Bodenhamer) Lawrence and LeRoy and Clara (Swenson) Wilbur; siblings Karen Faye Luskey, Alice Louise Goward and Clifford Allen Lawrence.
A visitation for David will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Brown Funeral Home - 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM and officiated by Rev. Justin Rorie. David will be inurned with military honors on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 2:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
