David Ralph Buckingham, age 80, of Holly Michigan passed away at home on Sunday, September 25, 2022. David was born October 29, 1941, to the late Clyde Buckingham and the late Margaret Buckingham in Detroit, Michigan. Following his graduation from Anchor Bay High School in 1959, David went on to serve in the United States Air Force before enrolling at Oakland University. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering, after which he worked at Chrysler for many years designing automobile sound systems. Later in his career he worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS). David was known and loved for his adventurous spirit and for always marching to the beat of his own drum. In addition to his engineering career, for many years he also cultivated crops on his hobby farm, selling produce at his roadside vegetable stand and at the Eastern Market on the weekends with a rotating crew of family members and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, downhill skiing, ice skating, and whitewater rafting/canoeing. However, most of all he loved the water, especially the Great Lakes. He owned several sailboats and powerboats in his lifetime and was never happier than when he was out on the water with the wind in his hair and spray from the lake in his face. Many of his adventures were set to a soundtrack of John Denver, Neil Diamond and The Clancy Brothers. David appreciated the companionship of animals and doted on the cats and dogs that shared his home. David was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by his loved ones. David is survived by his life companion, Hyapatia Overturf, daughter Melissa (Emmett) Nolan, brother Wally (Joan) Buckingham, grandsons Thomas Nolan and Liam Nolan, granddaughter Lillie Nolan, niece, Andrea Buckingham, nephews Robert (Corrie) Cason, Jonathan Cason, Jared Cason and Mark Cason. David was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Akre and his nephew Scott Buckingham.
