Christina Lee Hansen, of Flint, MI, died peacefully at home on June 13 surrounded by friends and family, after a long struggle with cancer. Chris was born on June 9, 1953 in Grand Rapids, MI, daughter of Marc and Vadra (Windette) Hansen. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School; earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Hope College, Holland, MI; and achieved a Master’s Degree in Computer Science at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. Chris worked as a computer programmer for Electronic Data Systems in Flint for many years, then for Hewlett Packard after EDS was acquired by them. Chris had many facets to her life and enjoyed the company of others. She loved spending her summers at Cherry Lane Resort, was an avid member of Delphi, HP & Kettering University Duplicate Bridge League, and a former member of Schussmeisters’ Ski & Board Club. Friends have shared happy memories of the awesome home-cooked meals she used to make for them. She was also very talented in the art of needlecraft and was an excellent seamstress, creating many of the items in her professional wardrobe. Just as skilled at knitting, she made gorgeous, beautifully crafted sweaters, plus large, colorful quilts, detailed needlepoints, embroidery, and crochet.
Chris was preceded in death by her father, Marc Hansen; her brother, Joseph Hansen, and husband David A. Smith, who passed away in 1998 after a brief marriage. She is survived by her mother, Vadra Hansen, and sister, Amelia Hansen (Paul Nehring). Also surviving are her many friends at Cherry Lane Resort, whom she regarded like family and who remember her well for her intelligence and generosity. A memorial will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 6240 Fenton Rd., Flint, MI. Visitation is at 2 pm, followed by a remembrance where friends are encouraged to share stories. Memorial donations may be made to Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, 302 Kensington Ave, Flint, MI 48503.
