KING, Beatrice Isabel (Peggy), of Flint, age 88, passed away with her family around her on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Foundation of America. Peggy was born in Barking, County of Essex in England on November 5, 1922, the daughter of Lilian (Clark) Lane and Joseph William Lane. She married John Burne King Jr. of Tawas, Michigan, on July 25, 1945 in the Parish Church of Barking in the County of Essex while John was still serving his country as a soldier in the United States Army. Shortly after their marriage, John’s unit returned to the United States and Peggy followed him, staying with family in the Tawas area for awhile before settling in Flint. Peggy and John spent many years generously giving of their time by volunteering at numerous hospitals and organizations throughout the Flint area including the former St. Joseph’s Hospital in Flint and subsequently at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Peggy is survived by her son Robert B. King (Bob) and his wife Janine (Jan); her son Keith B. King and his wife Flora (Flo) McCormack; and her son John B. King III; grandsons Robert B. King Jr. (Rob) and Edward B. King (Ed). She is also survived by her sister Alice Valentine (Billie) and her daughter Jenny and son Paul. John preceded Peggy in death in 2007 as did her sister Lilian Lane (Lil) and her sister Florence Tribe (Flo). Peggy leaves a legacy of much love, great strength, selfless generosity, and wonderful memories of a lovely proper British lady. Kettle’s on Mom, time for tea……..
