Austin James Berger “AJ” passed away at the age of 33 on June 27, 2024. He is survived by his loving parents James and Lisa Berger, sister Mandy Gidelski (Michael); niece Madison Gidelski and nephew Michael Gidelski; Grandmother Sharon Pelc, Aunts and Uncles Ken Pelc (Liz), Greg Pelc (Tina), Jerry Berger, David Berger (Dorena) , Raymond Berger, Pat Erkkila and Susan Longendyke (Richard).
He was especially loved as one of 16 cousins and many more second cousins all for whom he was more of a fun uncle figure than a cousin.
Austin was a devoted friend and family member. He cherished moments spent with loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter, joy, and shared experiences – especially those on the water.
Austin felt most at home on Marl Lake, always willing to take anyone tubing, fishing, swimming, or jet-skiing.
While not on the water Austin stayed active with hockey from a young age through his graduation from Flint Powers Catholic High School in 2009 where he was recognized for his accomplishments and sportsmanship on and off the ice.
Where Austin showed his greatest fortitude was navigating his personal mental health journey; exuding grit and resilience during the challenges he faced. His victories and growth inspired him to pursue a career in health-care administration; for which he received his BS with honors from the University of Michigan – Flint and was a passionate advocate for patients and their family support systems; much like his mother who made a career at Reach Resource Services in Flint MI.
Austin valued his personal relationships and enjoyed being a part of his community. He was recognized by many as a regular at his favorite Fenton restaurants Leo’s Coney Island and Panera.
He was preceded in death by Grandparents Arlene and Clement Berger, Grandfather James Pelc, and faithful dog Beauty.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations to the Reach Resource Service in Flint, MI. www.reachrs.org
