Deacon Winston Johnson was born April 12, 1930 in Trelawney, Jamaica to the late Ralph W. and Amy Deta Johnson. He attended Ulster Spring High School. He had 5 siblings: Venice Haye “Vor”, Viola Johnson “J”, Ena Ellis “Lue”, Mr. Leslie Johnson “Bant” and Richard Johnson (who preceded him in death). He moved to New Brunswick, NJ from Jamaica. He has 6 daughters that also reside in New Jersey. Winston was married to Leonie Davy Johnson on November 6, 2004, until his death.
Winston gave his life to Christ when he was a young boy. He was ordain a Deacon on July 7, 1996 at the Friendship Christian Disciples of Christ Church, by the Rev. Zelmon D. Johnson, Pastor. He later moved to Florida and joined Mt. Zion Missonary Baptist Institutional Church on January 1, 2006 where he served as a Deacon. Then on January 30, 2010 he helped in the founding and formation of the New Life Fellowship MBC. There he was a devoted Deacon and Spiritual father of the church. He also sang with the Cavalier Male Chorus and composed a song for them. As a writer, in his spare time, he composes his own private selections of spiritual songs. Spiritual music was a big part of his life; he knew several traditional hymns; which he often played on his harmonica and guitar. He also enjoyed going to the YMCA, playing dominos, puzzles, and doing wood work, where several pieces are displayed in the church.
Winston was employed by Rutgers University in the Division of Dining Services department and he retired on August 1, 1995, with over 16 years of service. He had received serveral awards and acknowledgement for exceptional service.
Our precious Lord called Winston home on Monday, October 13, 2014. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife Leonie Johnson; his 6 children: Paulette Palmer (Clive Palmer husband), Jennifer McDonald, Amy Jackson (Marcus Jackson Sr. husband), Phyllis Brown, Dr. Claudette Lattimore (Rev. K. Jeffrey Lattimore husband), Dorrett Hitchman; Three Step-daughters: Sharon Thompson (Pastor Errol G. Thompson Sr., husband) , Jennifer Williams, and Althea Williams. He was also survied by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
