There were many times I would sit next to my father, he would take my hand and just talk for hours.  We cried together, laughed together, shared our thoughts, memories, opinions and fears.  One thing we always agreed on was the importance of time.  He and I spent a lot of time together.  When he was well my husband took him all over traveling to places he always dreamed of Paris, London, Switzerland, New Orleans, chartered yatchs to deep sea fish, ate in the best places (we shared a love of good food), all night shrimping trips, watching a movies or just sitting and talking for hours, it didn't matter how elaborate or small I remember ever second. 

I've been think a lot about people and how they spend their time these days and even more so now that my Father is gone.  He was always the first upfront and present at every party or play without complaint or question, he was there.  He used to called my house everyday sometimes twice just to giggle and catch up or to tell us a great movie was on.  He adored my daughter and had such an amazing relationship with her.

The day I sat with my father waiting for Hospice to come and take him, he took my hand again and we talked for hours until they arrived.  We talked about time and how much he didn't want to go.  He was afraid and cried and I cried with him.  When they rang the door bell, He looked at me with his boyish face and said, "We are out of time."  I stayed with my Dad only leaving his side to gather myself together and get a second wind.  The night he passed, I had our favorite dinner next to his bed, lit candles around his room and spent time talking to him.  I prayed for him, I bathed his feet and hands in Holly water and gave him his last drink and said goodbye but could never say it was okay to go.  It wasn't, he was to young.

I will be forever grateful that he chose to spend his time and heart with me.  I am honored to have such a wonderful man as my Father and will never forget the importance of how I chose to spend my time and give my heart to.  Thank you Dad.  I love you and will miss you forever... no regrets other than I wish we had more time.

Thank you to those of you that have shared your time participating in our lives over the years.  Your prayers for us and my father are sincerely appreciation.

Thank you Mr. David Enzfelder for playing bagpipes at my Dads Funeral Service. He always thought that you were a clever mastermind of music. His grandfather was a Scotsman. Dad was very proud of his heritage. On my search through Ancestry.com with Dad we discovered his family was full of carpenters, his grandfather built carriages. Dad will be sorely missed, surely for the rest of our lives. He was the perfect Dad. He always knew how to make me laugh and smile and went out of his way to be sure everything was taken care of for all five of us kids and Mom, no matter how or when.  He encouraged me to start painting and always talked about the passion for art and wood working and restoration that we shared and we spent many hours behind the paintbrush together, even though Mom had to remind us it was almost sunrise a time or two. We will carry with us the abundance of love,  gentle guidance, diligence and patience that he passed on to all of us. It is not goodbye, since he will always live through us in our minds and our hearts. Everyone that knew him, adored him. He led by being a fantastic example. Not long ago he said to me; "I have no regrets" "I have lived a fulfilled life that I would not trade for anything."

Mr. Cairns was an ardent supporter of the Westridge Jr. High band program, and was always present when his children were performing. One of the great parents that I had the opportunity to know over the sixteen years that I taught music.  It is my privilege to play pipes for his service today.
