Watney Blake, affectionately known as Uncle Watney to many, was born on April 12, 1935, in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. His late parents were Ebenezer and Aldith but he was raised by his stepmother, Aunt Isis.
In 1955, he moved to England, where he met his future wife, Carmen. They married and had four children: Dawna, Aldyn, Sonia and Dean. Following his service in the British Army, Watney took on various jobs. While in London, he developed a strong sense of community, always emphasizing the importance of sharing what he had with others.
The family immigrated to the United States in 1971, settling in Queens, New York, accompanied by their dog, Beauty. Watney initially worked as a welder until he sustained an injury. This turned out to be a blessing because he decided that the thing to do was to open up his own business.
We cannot say enough about his sense of humor, that’s why many people gravitated towards him. He was definitely a people person, a big charmer with good looks. His love for singing, showcased at his daughter's wedding, revealed a melodic voice. As a veteran, he had a passion for cooking, often preparing meals as if he were feeding an army. His generosity extended to always having something ready for potential guests or a late-night snack. Beyond this, he enjoyed watching Star Trek, Westerns, Karate movies, James Bond, and of course, The Young and the Restless.
Watney was predeceased by his brother Noel, sister Vannie, and son Godfrey.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Carmen; brothers and sisters, Adveral, Blossom, Fitzwarren, Gloria, Jezleat, Nora, and Toletha; children, Dawna, Aldyn, Sonia, Dean, and Carole; their spouses, Jack, Lascelles, and Tonja; grandchildren, Carmen, (spouse Jeremy), Amal, Alexander, Blake, (spouse Marisa), Taylor, Cameron, Daniel, Joshua, Micah, and Nathan; great grandchildren, Aria and Kira; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
