Wanda Custer (Smith) Brown passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, September 19th in Orlando, Florida Wanda was born in Martinsburg, WV on August 15, 1928, the daughter of Charles (Eddie) and Beulah (Shewbridge) Custer. She lived in Martinsburg until January 2003 when she moved to Orlando. She was preceeded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lawrence G. Smith; her second husband, Ralph S. Brown, Jr.; and a number of beloved aunts and uncles. Wanda is survived by daughters, Connie (Smith) Morris and husband John and Barbara (Smith) Miller and husband Richard (Bud). She was blessed with four grandchildren who adored her: Michael Morris, Katie (Morris) Parker, Jennifer (Miller) McNeil and Cari (Miller) Denson. Her seven great-grandchildren were also very special to her. Ranging in age from twenty down to five years old: Kayleigh Morris, Emma Parker, Regan McNeil, Adam Parker, Carter Denson, Kyle Morgan and Olivia Denson. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Sriyopant and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
While she had various jobs throughout her life ranging from Interwoven Stocking Company to optometric assistant and office manager for Dr. Frank Fisher to the Internal Revenue Service National Computer Center, by far her favorite was her years in the jewelry business at both Royal Jewelers and Jewel Box. Once she "retired" to Florida she devoted herself to family for which they will be eternally grateful. Wanda loved to dance, had a quick wit, loved all things chocolate, and her signature song was "Almost Heaven, West Virginia." She was a proud West Virginia girl to the end! All who knew her will miss her but she will live on through the many shared memories.
Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetary at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Halifax Health Hospice whose nurses and chaplain so lovingly cared for Wanda during the last several months of her life. Contributions may be sent to: Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 ATTN: Fund Development.
