John Thomas “Tom” Ard , age 93 of Orlando, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 2, 2024. Tom was born in Howey-in-the-Hills FL and was the son of John Ard and Annie Lou Hill Ard.
He graduated in 1949 from Clermont High. He attended Stetson College as an undergrad and then transferred to Florida State University where he earned a BS Degree in Elementary Education. In 1960, he obtained a Masters of Arts from Appalachian State. Tom was a veteran of the US Army, Korea and was stationed at the atomic testing at Eniwetok Islands.
Tom was a retired educator with Orange County Public Schools for 38 years. After retiring, he substituted another 15 years. He loved teaching. He taught at Pine Castle Elementary, Ivey Lane Elementary and Cheney Elementary. He was extremely proud of his students and enjoyed seeing all of them excel both in the classroom and in life.
Tom was a member of North Park Baptist Church for 59 years. He was a faithful servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. He sang in the church choir and faithfully served as a Deacon. He loved to share the good news of Jesus. We have great comfort in knowing he met Jesus face to face when he entered heaven.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia Driggers Ard and three children Judith Ard, Charleston, Julie Ard Campbell (Mitchell) Mt. Dora , Jonathan Ard, Orlando and other loving caregivers and extended family members Jennifer Tyner, Brandon-Lee Brett, Troy Pelaske and Royce Gates. He is also survived by his many, many dear Ard and Hill cousins whom he loved very much. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
