He was born in Glendale, Arkansas on January 22, 1947 to parents, Lucille and Sam Robert Weeks Sr. In his early years, Sam lived in Pine Bluff, Arkansas with his four siblings, Darlene, Iris, Elizabeth and Harry. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1965. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served six years as a Nuclear Electronics Technician on various submarines during the Vietnam war. After his six-year enlistment, he was honorably discharged from active duty, but then joined the Navy Reserve where he later retired after 26 years as a Chief Warrant Officer Third Class in Transportation. He moved to Maine after his first six years of service and started working for the U.S. Postal Service and also enrolled in college where he graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Business Degree. Sam dedicated 30 years to the postal service and retired as the Post Master of Picayune Mississippi in 2005. After his retirement, Sam and his wife Susan moved to Florida, where he decided to work again, but this time for the Florida Department of Revenue for 15 years.
Throughout his life, Sam was very active in the community. As a teen he was very proud of becoming an Eagle Scout. He also joined the Salvation Army with hopes to become a Salvation Army Officer, however, with the Vietnam War escalating, he joined the Navy to serve his country. Sam was also an active member of the Masons in Maine and in the Rotary Club in Maine and Mississippi. Additionally, he volunteered at the Seminole County Florida Sheriff’s office in the Citizen’s on Patrol program and became a dedicated member as the Treasurer for the Seminole County Republican Executive Committee.
He is survived by his first love and wife Susan Harper of nearly 51 years, Jennifer Pavlovic, daughter; John Weeks, son; Lindsey Weeks, daughter; Breanne, Nathan, Aleksandar, Anya, grandchildren, and Micah and Noah, great grandchildren. Sam’s biggest passion was his family, his country and serving others. He was an instant friend to all he met. His laughter, compassion and dedication will be missed, as all who knew him have been touched by his kindness. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 20th, 2021 which would have been his and Susan’s 51st wedding anniversary. It is located at the Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, Florida 34734.
