To Dr. Ngiam’s family - You don’t know me, but Dr. Ngiam saved my life in 2021 and I will forever be grateful. I arrived at Kaiser urgent care after being consistently misdiagnosed for a month with a life threatening infection in my heart - even after suffering a stroke. He came into the urgent care room, flung the curtain open and said said there was no way a healthy 46 year old has all these symptoms and he just kept saying “none of this is adding up.” Then he told me he wasn’t going to send me home until they figured out what was wrong with me, and he did. He is the one who figured out I had endocarditis and got me the immediate help I needed. I am so incredibly sorry to hear of his passing and please know his excellent care of his patients will stay with us for the rest of our lives.  Emily

I only met Dr. Ngiam once, when I was his patient in the Bellevue Urgent Care. He treated me with concern and kindness at a time when I was in pain, and he went out of his way to advocate for me to get the treatment I needed. Although I only met him this one time, his care in this moment stuck with me. I am very sorry to hear of his passing, and I send my condolences to his family and those who are missing him.

Dr. Ryan was truly an asset to the medical community. He was a kind and compassionate doctor whose patience, kindness and love for his profession and patients was exemplified in our ER. It was an honor to have worked with Dr. Ryan. He will be truly missed. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.

I was so fortunate to have met and worked with Dr. Ngiam at 
Advent Health Emergency Room in Oviedo.  He was such a 
nice, nice person; always smiling and so smart and just an 
excellent Doctor.  We all loved him and he was just great with
the patients.  We all told him how wonderful he was to work with
and that we wished he would work with us here in Oviedo full
time.  Such an awesome person.  I'm sending much love to his
wife, children and all his family. 

To the family of Dr. Niagm

I had the good fortune to work with him at Advent. He treated everyone as an equal, made us laugh, and was just a very grounded man. He always had a “good morning” for us, at 9 PM, which made everyone chuckle. We knew if Dr. Niagm was on shift, it was going to be a great night.  We were all devastated to hear of his passing. We will never forget him. He will always be one of the good guys, one of the nicest we have ever worked with and one that we will miss the most.

My deepest condolences.   I have many fond memories of hanging out with Ryan at med school.  No matter what the circumstances, he always seemed to have that impish grin that would lighten my mood.  I remember when he first discovered how fun it is to do donuts on a snow-covered parking lot.   He never seemed to stop and I had to keep reminding myself that he's from California and never had this kind of fun before! He was also a master Halo player, beating me literally every time.  So sad that he has passed, but glad to have had his friendship.  The memories will live on.

Many warm thoughts and condolences to Ryan’s beautiful family. I met him in medical school and will always remember him for his warm smile and UCLA connection. 

I will miss, Ryan at our Urgent Care.  We would talk about our EV's from time to time and one day I was coming to work and I spotted Ryan's Tesla and looked in the window as I walked by his car.  When I came into the Urgent Care, Ryan said; while holding up his phone, why was I leering into his car as He played the video from his car's video cam.

Sending our deepest condolences. Our hearts were broken to hear that Ryan had suddenly passed. We are thankful for all the fun memories he has left our neighborhood. From riding his hover board to the mailboxes, to him and Colin cruising the neighborhood on their electric go-karts, and the fireworks spectacle he put on for us last 4th of July. Not to mention his generosity, kindness, and sense or humor. None of it will be forgotten. 

May you and the boys find comfort in knowing how well loved and respected Ryan was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May he rest in paradise.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Ryan Ngiam, and wish to express my sincere condolences to his family. I worked with Dr. Ngiam for three years as a nursing manager at KP Urgent Care. Ryan was one of my favorite doctors to work with ever. He was unassuming, polite and kind to everyone, regardless of role. He kept his patients' best interest and well being at the forefront of his decision-making and care at all times. He was fun to work with and brought his own brand of quirky charm to the often stressful and challenging UC environment. Our team felt like a family and Ryan was very much a part of it. He will be greatly missed. Ryan spoke fondly of his own family often and I know they were always in his heart.

My wife Mary and I knew Ryan as a colleague at work, and we are saddened more than we can express at the news of his passing.

We both remember him as a indefatigable physician, always even tempered and cheerful. He cared for his patients with exacting detail, never gossiped or criticized, and was approachable at all times, ready for discussion about an interesting case or to answer any questions any staff had about patient care.

If he kept his work out of his family life, I do not think he succeeded in keeping his family life out of work. He stories  bore witness to an enviable devotion. If the ideal husband and father is one who provides and protects, he epitomized that. 

Ever concerned about the security and safety of his family, he often boasted about his sons in a subdued way with smiles of obvious satisfaction, cherishing their unique gifts and interests. He spoke less of his wife, except that he could not conceal that her wishes were foremost in his heart.

Even reminiscing this little bit makes me realize what a tremendous loss his passing is. I wish there had been more time to know him as a friend.

John Griffing: I worked with him at KP for several years when I was a new emergency room tech. He always had a good attitude and smiled a lot. He was never rude or abrupt with me in my entire 3 years working with him. He had a boyish energy  and that comes from a young 26 year old at the time. He always had that rubics cube! He would always mess with me or quiz me on medical topics when I was going through PA school. 

I am utterly shocked and dismayed at this awful event. He was a good man, good physician, and good family man. I will be praying for his family and friends.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. Ryan was the first person I hired in Bellevue and I quickly recognized his generosity and willingness to help others. Whenever we hired someone new, I always tried to schedule them with Ryan as he did such a great job of teaching our system and problem solving. He helped a whole generation of employees to become more efficient and facile with our systems so we could spend more time with our patients (and with each other).  I will always remember his joy of life and youngness at heart from his hover board, Rubik’s cube, or the newest latest and greatest gadget. Words cannot express my profound sadness for your loss of a husband, son, father and uncle and our loss of a great friend and colleague. 

I had the pleasure of working with Ryan in Bellevue. He was always the smartest person in the room, and if I there was something I needed help with, I could count on him to get me through it. He was approachable, brilliant, and yet humble.
I looked forward to shifts with him as I knew it would be a good shift, full of laughter. He had the ability to bring laughter to even most stressful situations with his quick and witty remarks. 
He was a hard worker, and more importantly, a genuine and kind person. 
He glowed when talking about his kids and his joy was contagious. 
Ryan, my friend, you will be missed. 

I uprooted my family from California to go to Seattle. Starting your life over in a new role and a new town is never easy. In fact, my decision to do so felt like a mistake. There are people you meet in life that soften the shock of starting over and Ryan Ngiam was one of those people in my life. I remember an intelligent and articulate human being. He always wore a joyful grin on his face. His kindness and his laughter was contagious.  He was a the ultimate professional but he was best at being a kind human being. My condolences to his family and his friends. He is gone too soon. I will mourn him. He was a good man. 

Dear Katherine, Colin, Declan, Cillian, and family of our beloved Dr. Ngiam,

I am one of the pediatricians at Bellevue Urgent Care and had the privilege of working with Ryan for the past 6 years.  It is with such a heavy heart that I heard of his passing.  

Ryan was an incredibly talented physician who strove to do his very best caring for each patient.  He was endlessly patient and kind and positive, constantly pursued the latest medical knowledge, and brought levity and joy to each shift.  His care for his patients was only passed by his adoration of his family.  He loved to share about each of his kids, and he was always brainstorming new adventures and fun to share with them.  Each of you was the light of his life, and even though I have never met you I feel that I know you because of all he has shared about you.  

I can only imagine how challenging the weeks and months ahead may be after the loss of such a wonderful husband and father.  Your family is in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this time, and my kids and I would love to help however we can. I had the honor to work side by side with Ryan for the past 6 years. He was loved by his co-workers and kept a positive attitude when thing were difficult. He was always willing to help others. I was always happy to see his name on the schedule next to mine. He was a good physician and was thoughtful. He was kind and cared about his family, colleagues, and patients.
