Roy affectingly called Fisher was born to the late Daniel and Blanch Fisher on August 20, 1936 in Albert Town, Trelawny, Jamaica. His father Daniel died when he was a small child so his mother and siblings moved the back to Ulster Springs, Trelawny where he grew up. Roy attended the Ulster Spring Elementary School. After leaving school he went to Chalky Hill in St. Ann to live with his uncle Alex and Sister Cynthia. While in Chalky Hill, Roy and Cynthia developed a bond as they were far away from home and their other siblings
In 1958 Roy came back to live in Ulster Spring, then in 1959 he went on his first working trip to the United States. Life in the United States was different from life in Jamaica. One had to work hard for a living but that did not detour Roy because he was accustom to hard work.
Shortly after his first trip back from the United States, he met and fell in love with the beautiful Ionie Solomon. The two were married and union produced three wonderful children, Carol, Roy Jr., and Willie. Roy continued to work in the United States and in 1972 his family joined him there.
Roy retired in 1999 and continued his love of farming vegetables in his garden. When you made a visit to his home you could always count on getting fresh avocados, gunga peas, pumpkin, and sorrel just to name a few.
On April 25, 2009, Roy gave his life to the lord. He attended El Bethel Temple and enjoyed praise and worship.
In 2009 Roy became ill and by 2010 he was confined to bed.
Commendation goes to his wife, Ionie for the excellent care she gave to him. One could see that he was getting first class treatment. Although he was sick and could not move there was a peaceful look on his face and he would ever so often smile and hold short conversations every now and then. Seeing his grandkids was always the highlight of his day. He looked forward to them coming to his bedside to make him smile.
On Wednesday October 16, 2013 at 11:45 pm he succumbed to his illness. God saw that Roy was getting tired so he called him home.
Roy, Daddy, Grandpa, you are gone but we will never forget you.
