January 5, 1941 – April 18, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Sang-Geil Kim, who left us peacefully on April 18, 2025, at the age of 84.
Philip was a devoted husband to Hae Sook Kim for 53 years; loving father to Eileen (Stan) Choi and Seung (Laura) Kim; cherished grandfather to Prisca Choi, Ethan Kim, and Rachel Kim; dear brother to Eun Hae Kim, Sang Deuk Kim, Sang Sup Kim, and Sang Ae Kim; and son of Kyung-Nam Kim and Jung-Soon Park.
Philip was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, where he attended the elementary school during the Korean War and attended the prestigious Seoul Middle School, Seoul High School, and Seoul National University. He was a geophysical engineer who worked for the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Korea National Oil Corporation, and Daesung Group until he became the CEO of his company Dong-Sung Geological Engineering. His job involved discovering and securing the sources of groundwater and petroleum in South Korea, as well as other countries. During his career, he received many awards from the Korean government, notably a Medal of Honor for discovering the Second Infiltration Tunnel from North Korea on March 19, 1975. Philip’s faith in God grew stronger as his family grew, and he became an Elder in 1989. He found joy in serving God, his church, and the church members. He loved everyone, even those who visited our church just once, touching all those lives through his big smile and kind gestures.
Philip will be remembered as a man who put 110% in everything he did. He had a personal relationship with Father God with strong faith, an unmatched work ethic, and a firm conviction in everything he believed in. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a kind, spiritual, proud, and honest person who touched so many lives with his love. Philip will be dearly missed.
Visitation for Elder Kim will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 2:00 p.m. until his Farewell to Heaven Service at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Homes, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734. A Burial Service will follow at the same location.
