Oscar L. Nelson, 85 years old, lived in the central Florida area for almost 53 years. He transitioned to his new home in glory on February 27, 2024, after courageously battling with Parkinson’s disease for many years.
Oscar, who preferred to be called Nelson, was born in Miami, Florida on January 20,1939, to Eva and Oscar Nelson. While he had many different interest and hobbies, he was a craftsman at heart, pursuing jobs that allowed him to work with his hands. He enjoyed fixing things as well as making things. He served in the United States Marine Corps reserves from 1959 to1965 as a howitzer crew member and trained annually at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
In 1961, Nelson met the love of his life, Helen, who changed the course of his life forever. On February 3,1962, they were married in Miami, Florida. Growing up an only child, he hoped for a big family. Little did he know that he would be outnumbered with having four beautiful daughters: Doreen, Laura, Donna and Teresa.
Nelson worked as a machinist for 32 years. He retired from Crown Cork and Seal after 25 years of service. He spent his early retirement years traveling with Helen. They enjoyed traveling to Spain, Norway, Sweden, Tunisia, France, Hawaii, and so many other places. When not traveling, he enjoyed spending time with his 10 grandchildren. His favorite sports were bowling and ping pong.
Nelson was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Oscar Nelson. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nelson will never be forgotten. His life will go on in the lives of his family and friends.
