Born in St. Augustine, Florida, on September 21st 1945, she was raised in Hastings, Florida by the late James & Ruth Cockfield. She studied Radiology at Jones College, and earned her stripes working in the E.R. at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
When Mary met her beloved husband, Donald “Scooter” Fay, through a mutual friend in Orlando who had a knack for making chocolate chip cookies, she did not like him a bit! But, persistence and chocolate paid off, and in 1970, they married… and, soon enough, she and Donald enjoyed venturing together on all sorts of travels.
Even though Mary was a quiet girl, she brought leadership to many arenas. President of the Craft Club at Zellwood Station, she especially enjoyed crocheting. One year, she made more than 30 prayer shawls; and, she made priceless Christmas ornaments for all of her nieces and nephews. Never tiring, Mary and Don ushered at their Zellwood United Methodist Church, where Mary was also a part of the ladies’ group called Joy Circle. Together they worked with Zellwood Station more, as she held the Presidency of their Good Samaritan efforts, namely bringing food to families who had lost loved ones. Her love never answered “no”…
Mary is survived by her dear husband, Donald; her brother, James Cockfield (Kay); two brothers-and-sisters-in-law; 3 nieces, 1 nephew and 9 great-nieces-and-nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 6th, 2015 at Zellwood United Methodist Church, 11:00am.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
