Leo was born on November 22, 1926 in Miami, Florida to William and Bernice Carey. They had 11 children. He entered the US Navy at the age of 17 and was stationed on the Shangri-La aircraft carrier in the Asian-Pacific where he worked in the kitchen as the baker. He loved serving his country and was very proud to be a World War II veteran.
After serving in the US Navy, Leo became a master carpenter and contributed to the building of several high rise buildings in Miami. He met his beloved wife Helen in Miami and they later moved to Orlando, Florida in 1980 where his work life took him to Walt Disney World. He loved working on the Epcot attractions, The Living Seas and The American Adventure as well as many other Walt Disney attractions. He was excited that he got to see and work in Walt Disney’s office located in The Magic Kingdom. His work experience also took him to Universal Studios where he worked on The Jaws attraction. He was thrilled to get a call to work at Sea World on the set for the Jaws 3D movie being filmed there.
Leo and Helen loved the beach and fishing and spent many wonderful years traveling to Captiva Island in South Florida where Leo would fish and Helen would gather shells. They also loved country music and would travel to Nashville and Dallas. They would travel across the country to see their family and enjoyed their adventures together. Everyone that met Leo will always remember his wonderful laugh and happy go lucky attitude.
Leo is survived by 3 daughters, Patricia, Sharon, and Cheryl; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Sandy, and son, Jimmy, preceded him in death.
