Our beloved Larry Edward Elliott of Windermere, Florida left us unexpectedly at the age of 65. Larry was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague to so many of us. Larry was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 20, 1956 to Leonard & Edyth (Witthar) Elliott. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Henson. He is survived by his loving wife, Nashana Elliott; his sons, Winston Elliott, Joshua Elliott, and Dustin Elliott (Jenny); his daughter, Lindsay Jorgenson (Ryan); five grandchildren; his siblings, Barbara Daniels (Jerry), Donna Dorsey (Robert), and Wayne Elliott (Kim).
From a young age, Larry loved life and filled those around him with laughter, joy, and a sense of dignity. He cherished his family and friends, and left each one of us better off for having known him. Larry was incredibly kind, always making himself available to help others. He welcomed others with warm hospitality – no one was a stranger to Larry – and many of his friendships were born out of Larry striking up conversation with someone passing by. Larry was a true helper, and much of his joy came from helping others thrive and succeed in their goals and dreams. He never failed to see the good in people, and all of us who knew Larry were impacted by the light that shined through him.
Larry’s dear wife and children were his heartbeat. His dedication to them was a beautiful reflection of sacrificial love. He filled their lives with silly jokes, an understanding of hard work, and quality time together. He was often playing in the yard with his youngest sons or calling to check on his grandchildren. Most of his moments were spent side-by-side with his beloved wife, sharing coffee, sitting outside, and ever-exploring life’s questions. So much of Larry lives on in his family, and as our best teacher, he taught each of us how to strive for the best.
As a gifted engineer, Larry could construct anything from wooden toys or furniture for his children, to a theater room in his home. He approached every problem as a creative opportunity. If any one of his friends or family members needed something fixed, they called on Larry, knowing they would be met with help. Larry was also known for his gardening, homemade salsa, and love for the outdoors. He was often captured by the beauty of nature, which drove his love for fishing, bird watching, golfing, and camping.
Larry rose to the role of senior vice president of Carollo Engineers. He was a once-in-a-generation talent and established his presence as a leader in the Midwest and Florida environmental engineering markets. His leadership in his company sparked a period of significant growth that will continue into the future. Larry perfectly captured the different elements involved in being a great consultant – delivering great projects, earning the lasting loyalty of his clients, and growing staff with a sincere commitment to their careers.
His passion and enthusiasm for work and life were unmatched; we will dearly miss Larry.
In lieu of flowers, the Elliott Family invites you to make a donation in his name to a charity that you feel will honor his incredible legacy.
His memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16th at 11 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Florida 34734. A repass will follow at the family home.
The memorial service will be live-streamed on YouTube and available for 30 days following.
