Kenneth Millard Smith (Ken) went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 11, 2017. A native of Orlando, Ken was born to Margaret Lybrand Smith and Millard Boone Smith on January 11, 1947. Ken attended school in Orlando, graduating from Boone High School. He then traveled to Tallahassee, Florida to attend Florida State University where he majored in business. Following graduation from FSU, Ken enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served for four years, gaining the rank of lieutenant. Ken attended flight school at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas and subsequently became a flight instructor for T37s and T38s.
Upon completion of his service, Ken returned to Orlando to work with his dad in the business his dad started in 1946, Smith-Wilson Office Supply Company. Anticipating the changing economy, Ken sold the business at the age of 40, and pursued his passion of flying. Ken became a private pilot for businesses, political figures and for numerous charities, including Angel Flight. Another of Ken’s passions was philanthropy, and he served for many years on the Foundation Board for Orlando Health.
Despite his numerous accomplishments, Ken’s greatest joy was serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
His legacy will live on through his wife Patricia (Trish); his daughters Summer (Ryan), Meadow (Mike) and grandchildren, Holden, Hunter, Tyson and Chloe; siblings Larry and Sharon. Also surviving are his step-daughters, Jaime and Hayley (Jason) and grandchildren Alex, Jayden, Noah and Addie.
For all those who loved and respected Ken, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 4:00 P.M. at Lifebridge Church, 12120 Chase Road; Windermere, Florida 34786. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Ken to Orlando Health Foundation; 3160 Southgate Commerce Boulevard, Suite 50; Orlando, Florida 32806.
