Joyce was born to Richard Thomas and Martina Olsen on October 24th, 1936 in Dhulia, India.
Her parents were medical missionaries and she went to a British boarding school in India as a child. She attended Wheaton Academy in Illinois for high school and then trained to be a nurse at the West Suburban Hospital near Chicago. She went on to Wheaton College where she met Donald Munro. After graduation, she taught at the Brooklyn Hospital while he was in the Army. They married in 1961 and lived at Penn State College while Don pursued his PhD there. They moved next to Houghton, NY, where they lived and worked for almost three decades in a college community. Their children, Deborah Joy and Mark William were born there. After Houghton, they enjoyed a decade each in Ipswich, MA and also Elizabeth City, NC, followed by a stint in central Florida. Joyce was a generous person who spent her life in service to others. Her husband Don preceded her in death. She is survived by her children and grand-children and her sister Mildred. She passed on June 9th, 2020 and will be greatly missed.
