Joanne loved going to Las Vegas. We weren't big gamblers, but she really liked the thrill of winning a jackpot. It didn't even need to be a big one, even winning a few dollars was fun for her. She and I also love the lights and glitter of the Strip. We liked staying in a different hotel each time we went, so we could experience the different things each one had to offer. I think we must have gone on 7 or 8 trips to Vegas, we enjoyed it so much.
We have always been big Disney fans. We have been to Disney World probably hundreds of times since 1973. Of course we don't go so much any more, but we always go see the Christmas lights at the Hollywood Studios each year. We have almost all the classic Disney animated films. We started getting them back when VHS was the style, now we have DVDs. We didn't make it to Blue-Ray yet, but that would have been next. Joanne and I even got to visit Disney Land in California several years ago. She was very happy about having that opportunity.
Joanne's hobbies included scrap booking, crafts and playing a Star Trek card game. There are several of her scrapbooks that we have brought to the service for everyone to enjoy. She also made wreaths and was pretty good with a hot glue gun. The Halloween and Christmas wreaths we brought are examples of what she could do.
Joanne also enjoyed playing a collectible card game with John, me and several friends, based on the various Star Trek TV shows and movies. She liked the game but in a good natured way, hated the shenanigans that other players would use. She always played the non-aggressive decks and was pretty darn good too. She beat me in the last tournament we played and beat one of the better players in the world more often than any of us in the group.
Her single biggest love was Unicorns. She has amassed a huge collection of anything and everything with a Unicorn theme. She has shirts, pillows, drinking glasses, coffee mugs, statues, pictures, postcards, stuffed Unicorn toys, jewelry, letterhead, lights, a bedspread and just about anything else that you can put a Unicorn on. One of her favorite cartoon characters is a penguin named 'Private' from the TV show "The Penguins of Madagascar" because that cute little character loves Unicorns.
Joanne worked her whole life until she retired several years ago in the food service industry. She was working in the dietary department at our local hospital in Tupper Lake NY when I first met her (I was 16 and worked in the laundry, she was 17 and worked in the kitchen). She retired as a CDM (Certified Dietary Manager) working at Florida Hospital East on Lake Underhill. She made many friends there and there may be several at the service.
Joanne will be remembered most as a warm, loving person. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Ricky Kinney; son, Johnathon Kinney; brothers, Hurb, Cloide, Louis, Andre and Gary Sauve and sister, Mary Dunlap.
