Dorothy Joan Church- known by many as Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunt Jo, Jo, Joann, and Joan- was born on January 3, 1931, in Orlando, Florida. Her parents were the late Charles and Dorothea Kirtley. She was the youngest of three kids, her brother Charles G. Kirtley, and her sister, Luana Benton.
Dorothy graduated from Orlando High School in 1949. She worked several places over the years, some of which were Great Oaks Village in Orlando, and the Orange County medical clinic. She was able to retire from the county after working with them for over 20 years.
Dorothy loved to travel, often going on trips to various places with her loved ones. She was a big fan of Elvis Presley, and also loved country music, especially musicians such as Alan Jackson, Alabama, and many others. There was almost always music playing whenever she was at home.
She was also very big on family. Anytime possible, she could be found at her home, enjoying the company of a grandchild spending the night, or off visiting one of her children. She was also a very kind and loving person, always willing to give of herself to help others.
Ms. Church is survived by her five children, Patricia Simmons (Phillip), Charles Church (Carla), Deborah Church, Barbara Tyler and Michael Church (Donna), as well as ten grandkids (in no particular order)- David, Aaron, Matthew, Ginger, Charles, Kimberly, Stacy, Ricky, Kody, and Amanda, 12 great-grandkids- Dylan, Joseph, Anna, Lily, Lacee, Caylee, Mason, Kelsey, Rynlee, Skylar, Jimmy, Jonathan, and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed, but will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
