Born on March 23, 1930 son of James and Lucy Chalmers. Jim served in the Korean War as a proud United States Marine, honorably discharged in 1952, he met and married his wife, Beverly, whom he shared fifty years with.
Jim was employed with the Hartford Courant for 25 years before his retirement in 1979. An avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, bowler and camper he experienced life to the fullest. After a few years of travel through the states, he settled in at Yogi Bears Jellystone Park (known as Clarcona Resorts) in Apopka, Florida.
Jim is survived by his children James Jr., with his wife Sheila of Harker Heights, Texas; Wayne Chalmers of South Windsor, Connecticut; Faith Robinson of Apopka, Florida; and Wendy Lentini of Newington, Connecticut. He is also survived by his brothers Mark Chalmers and Stuart Scranton, sisters Caroline Falcucci and Nancy Hayes, along with 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was predeceased by a son, Blair, in 1994 and his wife, Beverly, in 2004.
James was a wonderful man who touched many lives. All who knew him appreciated his sense of humor, his stories, his strong work ethics, his love of cribbage and card games, his 6 am coffee runs, his love of life (and a good buffet) and most of all his generous heart.
Services are to be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Monday, September 21st, 2015 at 2:00 pm, where he will be laid to rest with his wife. Rest in peace, you will be forever loved, remembered and missed.
