Herbert "Herbie" D. Dowridge

Mr. Herbert "Herbie" D. Dowridge age 91 of Orlando, FL passed away October 8, 2014. He was born July 27, 1923 in the parish of St. Joseph Barbados WI to Charles Beresford and Florence Dowridge. Herbie attended St. Joseph's Boy's School where he was selected in the school band where he played the clarinet and trombone. After graduation, he joined the Barbados police force and later transferred to the Police Band section. He migrated to New York where he and his late wife Beryl were married for 57 years. While in New York, Herbie worked as a Computer Analyst until retirement. In April of 1990, Herbie and Beryl moved to Orlando, FL. They continued their Christian Fellowship in the Church of the Nazarene. After Beryl's passing in 2007, Herbie took residence with his cousin, Avril Taylor, where he lived until his passing.

Herbert leaves to mourn his sister Constance Dowridge of New York; nieces Hazel Taitt and Maxine Dowridge of Barbados, Judith Dowridge of New York; nephews Denis Dowridge of Canada, Erwin Dowridge of California, David and Hubert Dowridge of Barbados, and Keith Giles of Indiana; and beloved cousin Avril Taylor; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16 from 1pm-2pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734. Service will follow at 2pm.

Entombment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park following the Service.
